1) The Arts Building, we have talked about it having a Spanish influence in it's style. I was able to get the name of the style. I'm not sure I can pronounce it but here it is, "Spanish Churrigueresque Style"
2) Joseph Giri, there was a typo in some of the papers Giri is the correct spelling. Also, Roger Kroll (docent) called Joseph Giri and asked about the mural. He was told the Mural on the back of 301 Pine is not a copy of the same mural that was on the Barker Brothers Building. It was just painted because of the Barker Bros mural had been demolished.
The mural on the back of 301 Pine is titled "Eagle Band" Mural was constructed in 1994 and supposed to be temporary. Joseph Giri also did a mural on the Barker Brothers Building that was demolished. This mural is used in the movie Big Momma's House 2 and City of Long Beach commercials. It recently appeared in the April Motor Trends in an unauthorized ad for Cadillac. The city has notified Joseph Giri that the mural will be painted over soon.
3) When we get to the Masonic Temple (item #17) instead of standing in front of the building on the same side as the building, I would like for us to cross the street (using the cross walk in front of building). From there you get a great view of the Masonic Temple Building. After leaving the Masonic Temple you can point out the F & M Bank and let the attendees know that we will be returning back to the F & M Bank as our last building on the tour. If you have someone that might not be able to finish the tour that is a good spot for them to return to their car.
4) The Ocean Center lobby will be unlocked for us on Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
5) The Willmore, Stan Poe is to be at the building to take over the tour while in the building (10 or 15 mins). However, he is having a problem with his back and may not be able to be there. Stan will let me know tonight. If he is not joining us I will make sure each tour can get into the building.
6) The person that I was hoping to take over the tour while at The Breakers is not going to be able to join us. So we you arrive at The Breakers just push the buzzer and let them know you are with Long Beach Heritage doing the Historic Tour. They will buzz you into the building. Spend about one minute in the lobby moving to the elevator on your left. While in the elevator push "SR". The Sky Room will be unlocked for us to walk around in. The attendees might want to hangout for a while but remember you still have over half of the tour ahead of you. When leaving the Sky Room push the "A" to go down to the red carpeted lobby exiting on to Locust Ave.
7) keep in mind as you walk passed the Walker Building telling the history of the Walker Building That the Kress is to far away to see the details of the building. So you do not have to tell them much about the building just invite them to walk down to see the beautiful building on their own after the tour.
