Deborah
Shadovitz started out the meeting showing several of the new features
in the just released Macintosh Operating System, OS X 10.3
also known as Panther. Deborah has a feature article on Panther in
the January, 2004 MacAddict Magazine which is extremely informative
and explains how much time one saves by switching to Panther because
of its improvements.
Deborah, then switched gears and showed the benefits of the updated
GoLive CS. The biggest improvement in CS is the CSS style sheets that
give a real time preview of how the style looks in the dialog box before
the style is applied to the page. The settings can be set for text,
font, box, background and border attributes. Adobe also improved the
method of creating these style sheets to make it more accessible for
the average user. Deborah than showed the tight integration between
GoLive with Illustrator and Photoshop with smart objects. When you
place a smart file into GoLive, GoLive creates a new version of the
file that's optimized for the Web and maintains a link to the source
file, and automatically updates the object whenever you modify the
source file. She demoed this effect on a photo of her mom and dad from
their wedding and it worked brilliantly. Another new feature of GoLive
CS is it's tighter integration with InDesign CS. InDesign CS has a "Package
for GoLive feature, which uses XML to export the content of a document
for use in GoLive CS. Once the Package is imported into GoLive, a window
previews the InDesign CS document. You can now drag text and graphics
objects from the preview window onto a GoLive CS Web page. Pretty slick!
Deborah is now offering hands on 1-day classes for $99 in GoLive CS.
Classes are held when there are groups of 3 or more, usually in Los
Angeles. Deborah's
classes are a great deal, as a small class enables you to pretty much
have private tutoring. If you are interested, email Deborah from her
website, http://www.shadovitz.com. Provide
your contact information: Whether you're an absolute beginner, have
used another web application before, are
intermediate with GoLive, etc. Also tell her whether you have an iBook,
PowerBook, or laptop to bring, and if you own Adobe GoLive yet. Deb
will also teach Mac OS classes for groups of 3 or more when you form
your own group.
There wasn't a minimum $20 interest in holding a raffle (we had an
Academic version of GoLIve 6 and the Adobe GoLive 5 Bible authored
by Deborah
Shadovitz)
so those prizes will be available in a future raffle.
