Our November 1st
meeting was motivating and beneficial. Anton Anderson, Senior Partner
from Productivity Consulting was our speaker. A graduate of Dartmouth
University with a combined degree in Fine Arts and Computer Science, Anton
explained how he got his business started. He detailed some pitfalls on
his journey and how he had to begin again when his partnership dissolved.
The tips he expanded upon from his handout were: 1) Have a plan: act like
a big business now, so you'll be a big business later. 2) Attend events
that are outside your industry. 3) Sprinkle pro-bono work strategically.
4) Remember, even the worst of recessions, someone is doing wellfind
that person!! 5) Make a friend, and learn about their business. 6) Know
the gatekeepers & learn to like their coffee. 7) Call past projects
occasionally. 8) Always use written proposals. 9) The project is never
finished, just at a different stagefollow up. 10) Communicate clearly
and often. 11) Use Adobe PDFDon't be a virus vector. 12) Don't be
afraid to walk away from the bottom 15% of your clients. 13) Bring all
your clients to match up with your best/most fun deal. 14) Get staff with
your aptitude so you won't be afraid to delegate. 15) Have fun!! Besides
these points, there were several more and he went into the proper settings
to optimize your Adobe Acrobat files.
