Robert
Ozankan, Pro Graphics Printers Manager was our speaker and he purposely
chose May 2nd for presenting to our Long Beach group because he knew that
Epson was announcing their newest printers on May 1st. We were the first
group anywhere to see a presentation on the Epson Stylus Pro 7600 and
the Epson Stylus Pro 9600. Robert did one of the best presentations that
I have seen in presenting the technical specs and explaining the new 7-color
UltraChrome Inks utilized in these printers. The output from the printers
true 2880 X 1440 dpi resolution is truly awesome, rivaling Iris printers
quality for much, much less money than the old days (just $3000 for the
7600 printer or $5000 for the 9600 printer when I paid $5000 for my first
300 dpi Apple LaserWriter Plus in 1985). A primary difference in the two
printers is the size of paper that the printers accept. The 7600 can accept
paper as wide as 24" and the 9600 can accept paper as wide as 44".
A brand new print engine design capable of handling virtually any media
type (up to 1/2” thick) also incorporates innovative ideas that
include true BorderFree printing, intelligent high-capacity ink systems,
easy loading ink and media, and fast print speeds. If the excellent presentation
by Robert wasn't enough, Epson generously donated a brand new Stylus Photo
890 Printer to our raffle that was gleefully won by Barbara Cooper. The
only disappointing part of the meeting that evening was that Photo Printer
Product Manager, Parker Plaisted was ill and couldn't attend that meeting.
He promised, however, that he will make his presentation at the September
24th WOCMUG General Meeting with its larger audience rather than at our
Long Beach MacGraphics Group meeting, so you may want to mark your Calendar
now since he will be bringing another printer for that evening’s
raffle and the September meeting is also WOCMUG's next Super Raffle (I
won the Visor at the June Super Raffle). |
