"What's New in Adobe Creative Suite 2"

By Roger Kroll

Roger Kroll discussed and presented many of the new features in the just announced Adobe Creative Suite 2. One of the most impressive new features that Roger showed three QuickTime movies is the “amazing” Vanishing Point Filter in Photoshop which lets you clone, paint, and paste elements that automatically match the perspective of the surrounding image area. Photoshop CS2 also has improvements in the Layer Palette where you can select and move, group, transform, and warp objects more intuitively by clicking and dragging directly on the canvas. Another “WOW” feature in the Photoshop CS2 is Smart Objects that perform nondestructive scaling, rotating and warping of raster and vector graphics.

Two of the improvements Roger liked best in InDesign CS2 are Transform Again is finally available in InDesign like it has been “forever” in Illustrator and Object Styles. Object Styles allow you to make a Style like Character Styles or Paragraph Styles to Objects! This includes transparency, drop shadow, feather, text frame options, text wrap, fill and stroke colors, and stroke and corner effects. You can base an object style on another object style, so when you change the original, all related styles reflect the change. Really cool!

Two of the improvements Roger liked best in Illustrator CS2 are Workspaces are part of the new Illustrator and the old Adobe Streamline is built into the new Illustrator.
